Licensed Professional Counselor

I know how it feels to lose yourself as you journey through the ebbs and flows of life.

For many people, especially in today’s world, the ebbs can feel far more constant. The ebbs represent the times life is taking too much out of you, and you are feeling what I call the “Disturbing D’s,” which can leave a person feeling depressed, anxious, and traumatized.

As a counselor, my primary purpose and passion is to be actively present and create a safe space for you. It’s important that you are seen, heard, and validated as you process your feelings and thoughts. By helping you give voice to your unique experiences, I believe you will be able to release pent-up emotions, identify and examine your strengths and needs, experience restoration and revitalization, and regain a sense of power and control over your life.

ABOUT ME

I am an African-American middle-aged widow with three adult children, and I have two grandchildren. I love the great outdoors and being with my family. Therefore, I seize opportunities to go for long walks to connect with nature, and I allow the little girl in me to come alive as I run and play with the kids in my family. Spending time alone is as central to my wellbeing as spending time with my family and friends. I dance by myself, just as much as I dance with them. I laugh, watch a good movie, and eat popcorn by myself, just as well as I do with them.

Did I forget to mention that I’m also a writer? In 2007, I published my first book, Write the Vision. It’s an inspirational manuscript of short essays and poems that correlate to tell my story and to send a message of hope to those that can relate to my experiences. Currently, I am working on a memoir entitled: Black Woman Grown; Triumphing Over Trauma.

My faith is a core value. Therefore, I spend time reading and studying the Bible, praying, listening to gospel music, and attending church. I have also worked as a chaplain resident, which contributed to the development of my skills and my love for diversity. I firmly believe in an individual’s right to choose their own faith path, and everyone, from all walks of life, is welcome and supported in my therapy sessions. I am here for you!
