Lindsay Baish-Flynn

Licensed Professional Counselor

Would you rather be loved, or understood? When I ask this question, most people unsurprisingly say, “understood”.

That’s because feeling like someone gets you is a gift – the kind of gift that I think most people struggle to find in today’s world. As your therapist, I want to help you (or you and your partner) feel deeply understood for exactly who you are. Because when you're able to explore your full self or partnership in a compassionate, curious way, you will be amazed at what you can overcome.

I use integrated therapy approaches that are tailored to you. The work starts from the inside and moves out, first addressing the emotional beliefs and experiences that make up your inner world, while also having real talk about social forces that may impact you. In short: We will look at everything that makes you, you, so you can begin to lovingly accept yourself or choose personal change.

When it comes to change, I’m a big believer that it’s possible for anyone – at any time. I became a therapist later in life after a long career in corporate America. The transition was hard, but it led me to this work that I love. I think that being a therapist is an honor, which is why I bring my full self to every session – and that includes my sincerity, humor, and values.

I know the power of what’s possible when you have the space, grace, and support to explore what makes you feel authentic and free. As the iconic Dolly Parton once said: “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

ABOUT ME

The people I work with often ask me about my “real life” outside the therapy room. The truth is, “therapist” me IS me: easy to laugh, quickly enamored by people, and always candid.

But still, there are a lot of roles I play outside the therapy role that influence myself as a therapist – including daughter, wife, and mom (both human and pet). I’m a former competitive swimmer and current lover of all things water. I’m a sucker for public access TV cooking shows and will gladly recipe swap with you. I adore music (the live-r the better). I love to travel and believe everyone has a “soul city” (mine is Toronto, CA, what’s yours?).

Some of my more sacred interests include social justice and the decolonization of ourselves/society. To me, my politics and values are hand-in-hand. I try to walk my talk by volunteering on the Board of Health in my hometown, as well as volunteering for the Medicare for All movement. My work is rooted in the hope for collective liberation – and that includes you.

I’m passionate about cultivating virtues of equity and justice in my community. In many ways, I believe therapy is the space for unheard stories and silenced voices to take center stage. It’s the space in which we learn to share with the world who we are and what we have to offer. I also firmly believe that every culture and ethnicity has its own unique take on the world we share. When I sit down to connect with others, privileging these perspectives is a joyful learning process for me.
