ABOUT ME:
My worst habit is autopilot that prioritizes productivity instead of presence. So for me, slowing down to cook with loved ones and laugh over meals keeps me grounded and awake to myself. My most healing moments are spent with family and friends that have become family. I need the (very) slow walks with my geriatric golden retriever to notice my own sense of self- to notice what I want and what I need.
I believe that this autopilot does not come from nowhere. As we move through the world- one that is stratified by race\gender\sexual orientation\socioeconomic status we are taught that our value comes from what we know, how we look, and what we accomplish. We are taught that some people are more valuable than others. In this, we all learn to reject and exile the very things that make us ourselves. Although very much a work in progress, everyday I’m trying to learn what it means to be accepting of my full humanity.
